cultivated vs. seedbed vs. stubble tillage

Post by tecto »

What is the difference between these three field surfaces?
I bought a disc harrow to cultivate the field before sowing and it is showing me that field state is "seedbed" not "cultivated" like before.
What is the difference? Can I sow after that?
The last question - what is the stubble tillage?

i am guessing it is to do with the fact that disc harrow and cultivator are slightly separate now with respect to the influence on weed growth.

cultivators cause weeds to grow slower, cultivating then seeding has a slower weed growth than disc harrowing and then seeding or direct drilling with the seeders that have built-in disk harrow..

I think the most stupid thing here is that after using a stone picker field state is cultivated. Really???

I disked a couple fields in October I am now I am in February but still have no weeds in those fields or any of the fields I purchased. I did check multiple times and yes I do have weeds turned on.

@ garyst, I don't think you'll get any weed growth through winter.

You sure? It says something about creating a seedbed and it can remove small stones. Also it supposedly increases yield by 5%

In real life there are a few reasons you roll. Pre drilling it can be used to help create a seedbed. After drilling as I understand it smaller stones are pressed back into the ground to reduce header damage at harvest, it also firms up the seedbed giving better seed to soil contact to help germination and by breaking the clods of soil and levelling off the seedbed pre emergence herbicide applications are more effective.
In the game I rolled after I had drilled and you can see a change in the colour of the ground state afterwards whether it gives the extra 5% I can only assume it does. At some point I am going to set up a test map and have a play around on 1 field withy the new techniques and see what yield differences I get.
