Four different types of cultivators, what's the difference?

Post by Darth_Freddy »

So we have cultivators, shallow cultivators, power harrows and disc harrows and all seem to do the same thing. Can someone please explain what the difference is if there is any?

If the answer is there is no difference that's fine too, I just need to know :)

1st post btw, nice meeting you all!

They all do the same thing.
However, shallow cultivators do not dig up small rocks.

I think neither disks and power harrows, but don't quote me on this.

I consider those shallow cultivators :)

In short, ploughs, spaders and subsoilers dig up large rocks, some cultivators in the cultivator group dig up small rocks. Everything else, including the rest marked shallow in the cultivator group generates no rocks.

To be honest I'd never noticed a mark indicating "shallow" :geeknew:
Mind posting a screenshot for when I get back home?

Per the FS22 release notes : shallow cultivators allow weeds to return faster and in more abundance than deep cultivators/ploughs.

The game is already predefined in terms of weeds. 1 growth and you have 50% weeds.

I haven't seen any small rocks, though. Every rock I see, no matter what dug it up, has to be picked up with the rock picker. The roller is supposed to push down "small" rocks, but I don't think those exist in the game.

Less if the field is rolled, though. That seems to make the weeds grow slower.

Another thing I noticed, I moldboard plowed one field and then cultivated it, and never got weeds through the whole growing season. I'm not sure if that was a glitch or not, but it's something to think about.

I'd second that ploughed bit of a field and subsoiled the rest once the mod for creating fields with cultivators came out and now the subsoiled section is coated in weeds and the ploughed section is spotless.

You may want to go watch MrSealyP’s video on the subject on YouTube.

I don’t much on the weed issue yet, but with rocks, basically (I think): mulchers, disc harrows, power harrows, and shallow cultivators don’t bring up rocks. Deep cultivators and plows bring up small (rollable) rocks. Subsoilers and spaders bring up big (non-rollable) rocks.

Note all the power harrows on the seeders are broken as well. They do nothing. Their standalone versions do however.

I did. He ignored weeds completely. I like Farmer Cop's videos a little better. He covers in 10 mins what MrSealyP does in 45. I have to watch MrSealyP's videos sped up to 2x because he is sooooo slow. LOL.
