really? i did not know that was illegal. I assumed it was like any other modification to the game
CoreyTr wrote: Sat May 21, 2022 1:45 am Don't know why people are jumping on him with legalities. It doesn't sound like he's planning to share the DLC with anyone else.

§ 3 in https://www.farming-simulator.com/terms ... itions.php?
According to that, even "editing" the xml of their game would be in violation.
So anyone who's ever changed a value in any FS game file, is breaking the law.
No. Editing a text file is not reverse engineering as it's an open standard.

Cracking open an encrypted DLC is a different matter.

"In addition, editing, decompiling, disassembling, and reverse engineering are prohibited. Inciting third parties to or aiding and abetting such acts is also prohibited."

It lists 4 things that are prohibited. "editing", "decompiling" and "disassembling" are not the same as "reverse engineering".
Are you saying we can pick and choose for ourselves which of those violates the agreement, as long as it isn't "reverse engineering"?

Does it really seem obvious?
"editing" the xml is as much a violation as "decompiling" a file.
There are a lot of guilty people out there I guess.
The obvious part is one is encrypted and one isn’t

it mentions multiple acts, including "editing". Base game xml files are not encrypted.

Exactly. It is acts against an encryption file not just a regular one.

Yes, that's my point, it includes "regular" files as well, as you said. So, many people are guilting of violating their agreement.

No it is talking just about the encrypted files. Don't twist my words around. You said base game files are not encrypted that's what I was saying exactly too. Also it uses the word "and" you have to do them all to be illegal. If it said "or" then only one of them in the list.

I do it all the time.. I don't se the problem in opening dlc files and only using it for my self. I mean I paid for the game and I'm gonna use the whole game!

I didn't twist your words. If you are saying you have to do all 4 simultaneously to be in violation, then your understanding of the agreement is wrong. The agreement is saying.
Editing is a violation.
Decompiling is a violation.
Disassembling is a violation.

Where in the Terms and Conditions does it say it only applies to encrypted files?
It says "Games or Mobile Apps" which I interpret as all software, even base game files.

On the other hand, isn't it difficult to make mods if one isn't allowed to edit any files?
Also isn't Giants themselves violating the "Inciting third parties to or aiding and abetting such acts is also prohibited." part when providing tools and a place to share mods. But they own the software so it's ok for the to do so.

But if I'm asking a modder "can't you make a XXXXX mod?" then aren't I "Inciting third parties..."?

Mods aren’t violating that agreement so not sure what your point is. And there is a whole bunch of stuff in there about modding and the rules for it too.

Is 100% illegal to edit paid DLC.
Wait for the new game (FS24 or FS25) and you will receive it as a mod from Giants :)
This is the appropriate response. To edit our paid DLC, you'd need to perform an illegal action, therefore no, you can't edit a paid DLC.
