FS17 Poplars issue

I just want to see one poplar grow. I've built 6 different farms to the point of owning entire map. Have planted a row of poplars on every one of them. Once they grew a bit and added a few small branches, but then never matured. To be safe, I let last bunch go for 6 years. Nothing. I've used bare soil, soil with grass on it, fresh plowed, and every other combo I can think of. Not going to let it stop me from enjoying the game. As I can just use placeable ones if I want a windbreak. But would like to see one grow someday in case I decide I want to do some logging scenarios. Anyone have any advice?

Plantable poplars are not meant to fully grow to a tree. The are used as short rotation forestry and can be harvested using the forage harvester and a specific header creating woodchips. When they are ready for harvest they are pretty much as high as corn.
