Can I come home before I post?
I mean, we were ALL at FarmCon, there is obviously no post in the forums if no one is here. I'm around now, so let's see where that ends.
I think we all understand that EVERYONE at Giants was at FarmCon over the weekend. From the opposite perspective, a few things I think Giants (as a whole) needs to consider.
One, not everyone is at or can even attempt to go to FarmCon. Even at a "sold out" status, the number of people there represent a very small amount of the total amount of people looking for information.
Two, the event has been promoted, by Giants, to the point where the masses expect something to come from it. Yes, it is a big event for Giants, but I don't think many outsiders really care too much about the FSC. I'm sure its a fun event in house, but it's something many don't get too excited about. Therefore, everyone else is anticipating something more relevant to them.
Are we wrong to assume that most, if not all, of the information shared to the attendees at the event was prepared in advance? Couldn't a small, informative release been prepared in advance and released during the even (As it was at E3)? There was a trailer for the platinum edition released last year right at the beginning of FarmCon 17.
Yes, a few of the attendees did share their experience, and the link was informative...but to the great majority of us who don't speak German, those sources (few and far between) aren't a whole lot of help.
Finally, many (not including myself) are looking to pre order the game...which is actually available for pre order right now thru certain retailers. Isn't it just a little bit contradictory to say "be patient" when Giants is already allowing retailers to take consumers' money for a product that isn't really known about...let alone been seen?
From what I've read thus far, the new features sound good...and it appears Giants as done a good job understanding what fans are looking for in game. However, from a promotional standpoint, I think there is a lot left to be desired. This seems to happen during every year. The hype builds up at the beginning and then there seems to be a big let down (usually around the time of FarmCon). Then Giants is left to work on building it back up again. I would think it would be better to (widely) inform fans in advance of when information can be expected rather than allow speculation to catch wild fire status. Keeping certain things secret is perfectly fine...building hype is fine...just keep the flames under control.
