Grid symbol when buying machinery

Hi, can anyone tell me what the grid symbol is when buying machinery? It has a different number of squares and the number next to it? Just wondering what it is and if it has any bearing on anything??? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, it's annoying when all the help and manuals list all the symbols but the one you want to know about, and it's probably one that's been around that all the veterans know about, so we nubes have to guess. :)

I believe it is the number of slots that piece of equipment uses.
