Afaik, Giants doesn't test the mods of the mod contest (they only check for stolen parts and if the mod works at all), but the Sony and Microsoft demand, that mods for consoles are tested and bug free. Therefor you won't see a mod contest mod for consoles before the farm con (where the winners are announced). After the farm con all modders are allowed to update resubmit their contest mods and i guess quiet a few of them will find their way to the consoles too.

Are there not going to be mod releases now? If so, it’s going to be a long couple more of weeks

There are modreleases, just not today, Chris actually updated the "daily updates" thread shortly after the modcontest announcement.

So, ModContest mods follow a different procedure than regular mods. Usually, when a mod is submitted to us for release on the ModHub, it gets tested by QA so they have some baseline quality and all the settings and descriptions work. For console specifically, that means that the mods can't have any external scripts (they are prohibited for security reasons).

The Mods submitted for the contest do not get tested by QA, there is merely a basic check that the mod is safe to download (aka it has no viruses or other malware in it). The mod has to stand (or fall) on the skills and talent of the modder themselves. When the contest concludes, a mod is free to enter the regular modding pipeline where QA will test it and help the modder release it on whichever platform the author wishes to release on.

However, this also means that we can't do the contest with voting on consoles and i know that's a bummer. The main reason for that is, that we'd need to test the mods for console to ensure nothing like crashes or similar happens, but we also don't have the means to run a testing pipeline for the amount of mods (we're not a big company, remember?) at the moment.

And we'd rather have the contest than not have one so we can appreciate and celebrate our awesome modding community.

There are two mods which don't load.

The Unimog mod needs renaming to remove the dash (-) in the file name. Edit: looks like the Unimog mod has been removed.

The Obermarktdorf mod is missing some closing remarks in the modDesc.xml (if you want to get it working add </en> to the end of line 39, </de> to the end of line 40 and </fr> to the end of line 41 - see below).

Change this:

Code: Select all

<en>Welcome to Obermarktdorf
<de>Herzlich Willkommen in Obermarktdorf
<fr>Bienvenue à Obermarktdorf.
To this:

Code: Select all

<en>Welcome to Obermarktdorf</en>
<de>Herzlich Willkommen in Obermarktdorf</de>
<fr>Bienvenue à Obermarktdorf</fr>
It looks a decent map too, so I expect the modder will be gutted they've made a fairly basic mistake at probably the last minute.

If any more mods are missing make sure you have the 1.4 patch installed.

It took me 30 minutes to figure out, that the game only read compressed file.

Tnx tho, nice and easy fix.

What you mean by that?

Seems the unimog has been removed, first i could get it loaded, then loaded, then wanted to vote, but it was removed already.
Anyway, from impressions i can say i was not impressed. Nothing i am going to miss.
