Focus on the modern farming

Post by BearClaw »

Quess we are going down that street again and this thread will get som heat but i still havent figured out why Giants only have their focus on the big modern farm equipment in their simulator game, like a brand commercial simulator.

This is a simulator for the new stuff, new shiny modern and huge machines, but how about focusing a bit more on classic old machines and equipment? Just a DLC pack for all that matter, i will gladly pay for it.

I must say that old stuff is a huge part of farming, and they should have their place on a farming simulator. Seems like its all up to the modding community to make the old but gold, some of they do and i appriciate that

Maybe they show what the manufacturers want them to, i don't disagree some older stuff would be most welcome.

I think the answer is pretty simple. One is brand licencing. Old machinery is quite hard to licence. Two. Manufacturers want to present their LATEST and BEST. Their presence in the game is like some kind of advertisment and marketing. Nobody wants to show off old, used, outdated stuff.

I also prefer older machinery, but I doubt we can expect major improvments in this way.

I'd like to see some older machinery, but there is just so much out there. I mean here we just had the Claas Platinum Expansion with over 35 items and people still wanted to see more in the way of haymaking equipment and what not. 35 items, and we still want more. I can't imagine where Giants would even begin. What brand? Brands? British, German, Eastern Euro, South American, North American, etc.,.? What era? 1950's, 60's, 70's, 80's?? The amount of equipment and tractors that are out there is astounding. And the second they start, you will have big groups of people complaining, that Giants is ignoring there part of the world. I personally figured that when the John Deere license was announced it was a no brainer that we would see a "poppin' Johnny" or a 4020, arguably the most iconic tractor ever in North America. As others have mentioned before, licensing for these older brands would be a headache as well. Because some of these older brands are owned by multiple companies now a days. And heck, we still haven't seen a North American gravity wagon yet, a bridge from older farming that is a tool still used today. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it, from a practical standpoint, it looks like a nightmare.

P.S. I am by no means an expert and take none of this as fact, just my own personal opinion for the sake of a good discussion.

I know that Giants probably won't make a gravity wagon, but I love to read the responses.

This is the answer, it is a big commercial. All these companies hop on board to sell more of their products, putting old stuff in the game wouldnt be as beneficial to them.

I know I've said this elsewhere, I don't entirely agree with the view that manufacturers only want their latest and greatest: They love their history ...

https://www.claas-group.com/the-group/h ... ny-history

... just two.

Everything in the base game is done under licence so Giants can only use what manufacturers allow them to. For what they are given to work with, i think Giants do an outstanding job

I'd prefer to have the variety, but it is all about the commercialisation nowadays, more so than 2013. It's aimed more at people who get excited by a particular manufacturer than people who are just generally interested in farming. The FS 2013 Classics DLC Deutz D80 is my favourite tractor of any in any version of the game, but I am happy to put up with the new modern stuff. I'm not their target audience anyway. I'm not going to suddenly go spend half a million on a flashy tractor to park on my driveway.

They might add a 1970s Lizard Boneshaker on Modhub some day.

Meh, other than maybe as starting equipment for RP reasons I would rather have new stuff.

No farm is complete without at least one old hand. Ofthen it's an old combine. Like the "new" class from the platinum. I also like having one older yard tractor. And something new and shiny

In my opinion there are 2 reasons:
1. Manufacturers want to advertise they new equipment - manufacturers will not give away licenses and info, what they do not want to be inside the game
2. Giants wants to keep machinery authentic - Older machinery blueprints, photos and sound recordings are hard to make and get

Solution:
Put hope on modders, who has access to older machinery for photos and sound recordings.

People are asked for older machinery and i am sure Giants knows this already, they have done hard to work to acquire lot of licenses,
so the mods can come to console also. Also seems, when Giants makes a contract with new manufacturer, they also ask some older
equipment added to the game. As you can see we have something from each manufacturer. For example harvesters from NH, CaseIH and
Claas. Tractors from CaseIH, Fendt, Fiat (NH), NH, Deutz Fahr. Also special license for Fortschritt equipment.

Not trying to sound like a smart-@$%, but it is Farming Simulator 2019 and not Farming Simulator 1975.
