If the field is cultivated, activating and lowering only the seeder should be enough, there is no need to have the seed tank selected or lowered, just make sure you have it filled
But if you play the PC version you can lower/raise both front and rear implement if you want without constantly having to switch between them, check your keybindings and set which key(s) or buttons you wish to use for that function.
