Machine A: Windows 11 Desktop PC, 5 years old. Usually runs the game pretty well at 1080p 60 FPS with adequate settings. Game version: 1.10.1.1 (30488/81969), Windows Game pass.
Machine B: X-Box Series X, brand new. Game version 1.10.1.0 (30488/81608), Windows Game Pass
Network : over LAN
Friend status: both players are friends on Windows Live and in a "Party"
Server options (PC Side):
- Port = 10823
- Password = YES
- Allow Cross-play = ON
- Internet Connection = LAN (100/100 Mbit/s)
- Use UPnP = ON
- Max Players = 16
- Auto Accept = ON
- Multiplayer Language = English
Possible reasons I found while troubleshooting:
- Version Mismatch : most likely culprit from a technical standpoint, but since both games are up to date as far as vendors are concerned, this would basically mean that PC<->XBox crossplay is effectively non-working for everybody, Game Pass games being automatically kept up to date and all that. Keep in mind, I didn't see nor read anything online about Cross play being borked on a massive scale for everyone; it's just myself and a few other unlicky peeps.
- Non crossplay mods on the server: we already ruled this out tho, because I preemptively disabled all mods to avoid trouble, alas in vain.
- Windows Firewall settings : everything seems in order, but you never know. Any help in this field would be appreciated!
- Xbox Multiplayer server Connectivity: unfortunately, it shows me as "connected", so we can rule this out.
- Out of date PC : I upgraded my desktop PC to Win 11 last week, I should be pretty up to date...
