CVTs feel slower.

Post by Gugernoot215 »

Anyone else feel like the CVT transmissions are slower than the powershift transmissions?

They probably are slightly slower. CVTs take time to get max rpm, but stay there nearly always. I like the PS gearboxes. I think manuals are the most fulfilling aesthetically. But overall, the best and most consistent performance goes to CVTs.

I did some testing with the valtra n series and the 2018 case magnum by Karl Farms.
Unloaded the performance was identical or errors in testing from having to time and change gears was negligable.
But loaded the CVT versions performed better the difference was more noticeable on the hill climb in the rock crawling map by Alien Jim.
I should of recorded the times.

Unless you are switching gears, the cpu is terrible at it, the cvt would be much better under loads, and especially hills. I’m using a lot of classic machines on Old Stream Farm, and even equipment that doesn’t exceed the power ratings of the tractor bog it down to a stop most times. But if I switch to manual shift and shift myself, I can cruise through fields with the proper equipment. But the shifting mechanic on console with a controller is the worst I’ve ever used. So I usually get way overpowered manual shift tractors for my needs.
