That game could be SO awesome with a minimal risk of failure
First of all, I am a fan of Farming Simulator since FS19. I do have more than a thousand hours in FS19 and I now clock 1650 hours in FS22, which is probably rookie numbers compared to others here. My head is spinning just at the idea of how many hours of my life I have spent on this video game.
I always liked FS but ...
My only gripe with the game is the fact that it is impossible to fail. Whatever you do in that game ... since the beginning .. it is always walking around the same loop ... plow, lime, fertilize, weed, harvest, sell crop, buy new equipment ... repeat. No risk at all. Rinse and repeat.
Could you imagine how funnier this game would be by simply adding challenge to it?
The biggest downside of this game is how the weather has no effect whatsoever on crops. Even if in real life the weather is the biggest headaches of every farmers. At any seasons, a drought can turn hope in disaster. Few modders played with it a bit with FS19 and the Season mod, which was awesome as a good start! But it never made its way to FS22.
I would like to play the game, but having some risk involved. Briefly making it closer to a "simulation".
Ideas like:
- Weather having effect on crops ... drought, hail, flood, late frost.
- Tiny percentage of losing structure or crops to fire ...
- Sickness attacking your animals ...
- Major drop in crop buying price on a season for some reasons ...
- Major break of machinery representing a large percentage of the item price ...
... and so on.
New version of FS always bring more machinery and new crops. But how fun would it be to get risk involved. I am not saying that we should be always struggling, but at least getting some random rare event that would completely take you off guard from time to time would keep you on your toes. It would force you to plan more carefully, adding depth to the game.
Am I the only one who would like this?
Do not get me wrong, that game is great an relaxing. But in my case, I tend to get bored as soon as my new farm is well set and start to generate good money. I would really like to have a chance to fail if I grew too quickly or take for granted that nothing will happen.
Unfortunately for me, there are no risks nor challenges at all. I would like Giant to think about the simulation itself in the next release (probably 2028). At this point we do have enough tractor models and crops.
Please go deeper on the simulation side .... who would like this?

Re: That game could be SO awesome with a minimal risk of failure
I’m with you. I like the game as it is, but I have to create my own challenges.
In FS19 with seasons, there was one fall when it rained so much that I couldn’t get my soybeans off. I was mad, but, overall, it made the game more fun. The one big thing this game is missing is precipitation affecting crops. It’s the thing I hear real farmers talk about all the time.

There’s no place like utopia.

All for it!!! We need this! The game gets boring after a season or two ingame. Game needs some challenge and more life.
I would exchange fog and other technology from year 2000 they're announcing this year, for this kind of simulation.

The problem is they only add new features rather than add depth to existing features. They have gone to the extreme of adding stuff that isn't even farming related.
Farmers don't run factories, sell clothing and all that.
They had a good opportunity to include events with the seasonal cycles, but instead they made it snow and then left it at that.
It took them decades to make it stop raining inside buildings. Now it appears they are adding more visuals, but I am not optimistic the rain will have any impact in this new version.
If you want risk in this game, you'll have to create it yourself.

It is apparent that the only thing left for Giants is to make more money. They don't need it for development (as they stated in the past), it's just greed.
Better graphics = more sales....it is easier this way as 90% of the community will praise every polished turd they come up with. Why would you actually make something different / improved if people are daft enough to buy everything they put out. Some people are even stupid enough to buy games on pre-order.
Giants are not really community oriented when it comes down to software development. If you compare to other companies, how they manage updates and upgrades...no betas, no user participation, ignoring feedback, ignoring decade old problems,...
As FBtheSQL wrote "Simulation in the name..." i think Giants don't really know the word simulation.

"It took them decades to make it stop raining inside buildings."
And all it takes is to tick ONE checkbox in a buildings i3d attribute to make the roof have collision and voila, no rain inside. I cant even count how many mod buildings, sheds and barns I had to do this to because the modder forgot...
Also: the mechanic for having the weather affect crops is already in the game. Harvesting a field gives you the: "you cant harvest in the rain" message and if you do it anyway you incur like a 40% or so loss. The RainPain mod adds vehicle damage.
A lot of the OP mentions in his post are either already built in the game but just not "turned on" or could easily be implemented but for whatever reason Giants chooses not to.

Not much support for this sadly, Giants and lot of people prefer nice and relaxed farming experience with no accidents or problems.
I support both... Giants should implement options... to turn on HARD mode for seasons. I am just asking options, for people who like nice and easy way to do farming and for people who like challenge.
I know it might be too late for this change in FS25, because it is in late development phase already but i hope this thread gives some ideas for modders and Giants for future.
Also biggest disappointment in FS22 was for me, that nobody did not want to add any mod to the game, changing seasons more harder and challenging. For example FS17 and FS19 seasons mod was already so game changing, easy game to hard game.
Hope modders will do more in FS25 in that area.
Luckily in FS22 there was lot of other mods that allowed to make gameplay more challenging. From Giant Precision Farming and from modders Maize Plus and animal feeding/dying mods.

Actually its very realistic compared to real life. In real life farmers never fail...its called government subsidy

Be aware of weeds after 9 months, you'll need some crop protection
