How many sales were lost?
Does anyone else wonder how much the sales of Farming Simulator 25 are down because of not having the game on older consoles? I don't really care that they didn't.

Re: How many sales were lost?
I just want to say, I know the game as it is would have been impossible to run on the older gen consoles, seeing the issues they are having on the newer gen consoles. I just wonder how much of a "hit" Giants has taken because of this.

Re: How many sales were lost?
It's probably a profit, but giants won't tell you the financial details unless they post a report
Re: How many sales were lost?
I have a hunch that Giants are not as financially rosy as they were in the past, just based on a bunch of assumptions and reading into various situations.
Re: How many sales were lost?
I don’t know how though, in an article someone posted it was claimed that investment from brands pay for game development. That would make one assume extra profit. It sure seems to me with their turnover and the seemingly under finished final product they lack management or leadership.ReddogSoW wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 12:24 am I have a hunch that Giants are not as financially rosy as they were in the past, just based on a bunch of assumptions and reading into various situations.
Re: How many sales were lost?
But that's the rub. Ag manufacturing is on it's ar**. Is it not possible that manufacturers have cut spending on frivolous extras (like paying for their kit to be in a computer game) while tightening their belts? Is it not also possible therefore that this is a reason why the vanilla game seems somewhat devoid of equipment compared to previous iterations? Using Giants week 1 sales press release, and an average of £45 per unit (135k steam users), that's 6million quid. (average might be a little low given many will have forward bought the DLC as well but we're hypothesising here). That's only 2m a year for the 3 years of development. Nowhere near enough I'd suggest for a business this size. Nor am I counting the console sales etc, or those who bought it after week 1, or bought it and didn't get round to loading it up etc. But you see the point. I'm not suggesting Giants are about to go belly up, but I can imagine that things are not all sunshine and rainbows either.UncleRico wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 3:35 amI don’t know how though, in an article someone posted it was claimed that investment from brands pay for game development. Re: How many sales were lost?
Please keep in mind that GIANTS might also have to pay for the licenses to use some of the brands in the game.UncleRico wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 3:35 am I don’t know how though, in an article someone posted it was claimed that investment from brands pay for game development. Depending on the company they are getting those licenses from this might not be cheap, so they might not be getting so much extra profit through investments from brands.

I don’t know, maybe I’m not understanding this correctly but it says in the article nearly word for word it pays for game development. https://amp.theguardian.com/games/2023/ ... on-to-xboxReddogSoW wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 10:32 am

I would assume that gives you quite a leg up on being profitable. I also wonder if that’s why John Deere has such a heavy representation, they bought it. Funny too how their competitors are taking a smaller role, you do the math….
Re: How many sales were lost?
I've read a few articles just like the one you linked and I always got the impression the licenses literally funded the entire development costs. One of the devs made out the manufacturers were literally queuing up to be included.UncleRico wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 1:25 pm I don’t know, maybe I’m not understanding this correctly but it says in the article nearly word for word it pays for game development. https://amp.theguardian.com/games/2023/ ... on-to-xbox

Re: How many sales were lost?
So the brand manufacturers fund the development. Pre-orders and day one buyers fund and perform the testing. Modders keep the game alive beyond the month it would otherwise be alive. Looks like Giants is smarter than we thought.

Re: How many sales were lost?
I almost wonder now if the reason the release was bad because if they would have delayed they’d have more to answer to than just their fans. Their corporate add sponsors might not be to thrilled with their advertising investment not getting off the ground in a timely fashion. I can hear it now, “forget features just get the equipment from the companies that paid the most.” Sounds like they freed themselves from focus only to give right over to a much bigger albeit different type of corporate meddler.

I guess everyone missed this part
Farming Simulator 25 sold 2 million copies in its first week, which is the best launch in the franchise's history:
Sales: Sold 2 million copies in its first week, which is 33% more than the previous game in the series
Online peak: Reached almost 136,000 players on Steam on November 17, 2024, which is also 33% higher than Farming Simulator 22

Re: How many sales were lost?
That's an interesting one. If FS25 has been so much worse than FS22 (or FS19 which I remember as being the worst) then the impact won't be felt until Fs27/29 or whenever, this the two million could be said to be more a reflection of the FS22 release than this one.DirtMan wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 8:47 pm I guess everyone missed this part

Re: How many sales were lost?
I wonder of those 2million, how many got refunds? But yes, I'd missed that announcement. It begs the question though, if there were 2m copies sold, why is the player count so low in comparison (135k)
