how the license plates works?

Post by alanarientiziech »

I wish to know how the license plates works in US and EU maps

for example, in brazil we have a sequence like: AAA 1A11 (three letters, then a number, a letter and two numbers)
every vehicle that drive in roads have the same sequence (even double semi like lodeking prestige have a plate for each part)

so, for the purpose of imersion I just want to know how the license plates are used in those regions...
we have 2 types of plates for each regions, so can someone make a brief explanation how they are classified?
is machine?
is car/truck?
is implement?
is trailer/semi trailer?

thank you for your help

In the US it’s state by state what’s required but as a general rule you need a rear plate, but several states require front and rear, on any highway licensed vehicle and anything else isn’t needed. So a semi, car, or truck that you would be driving would normally have plates and anything else isn’t required. There’s farm and fleet plates in some states too but those vary as well. Most of our plates are six characters with two groups of three. Then there’s vanity plates where it’s usually 6-8 characters however you want.

Plate formats vary by country or region in the US and the EU. Regular cars, trucks, and trailers typically have different types of license plates. To indicate whether a vehicle is a commercial vehicle or a trailer, some EU nations also employ distinct colors or codes. Unlike Brazil, it does not have a single, cohesive system.

oh, brazil used to have a format system, designated by colors, today all them merged into the Mercosul agreement, and idk anymore how it works
