Stacking square bales

Ok, I've concluded that the biggest pita chore on my farm is stacking and storing sqaure bales of hay and straw. I see pictures or huge barns stacked neatly and orderly, while mine looks like the aftermath of "Superstorm" Sandy. Is there a secret to proper bale managment, or are my frontloader skills simply that bad??

My stacking skills are hideous as well. Hence, I use the autostacker equipment.

LOL.... glad it's not just me. I use the auto-stack trailer as well, but it can still be a tedious job lining up the stacks in the barn. And I’ve yet to find a shed tall enough to accommodate them. If only they came nicely stacked and strapped to pallets, like the wool. Oh well, nobody said farming was easy, otherwise everyone would do it.

That rooster is a noisy one! I have all my baling equipment located near my cattle operation. Fields 40 and 41 are larger fields, and make for a good source for hay and straw. Plus the grain mill is nearby, for selling the wheat. My row-crop equipment is located at the barns near fields 1, 2, 3 & 4. Large fields, and near the port. I spend very little time at the home place, just to collect eggs, or to sell excess grass.
I really spend too much time with this game...LOL

Like you, I hated having bales of hay scattered all about. I now use the autostacker....but have gone to much smaller stacks (only 4 high) and it seems to help out quite a bit.

Tip for you DONT STACK at the Chicken Run ITS a total PITA if a stack falls into the run!!!!

I keep all of my hay and straw bales at the cow pen. I stack them up against the little shed that comes off the feeding pen. The first time I put straw there with the auto stacker I backed it in too close to the shed and when it released the stack exploded. Now I have one straw bale on the roof of the cow pen.

Lol if you want to get it down you can push bails about when on foot so if you use a loader or a tractor with a big trailer on the back you could clime up and push the bail off the roof. You carnt push them very fast and you may pass though the bail a couple of times in the process but it works. ( Just dont fall off the roof )

Since I first posted this thread, I have found a tall bale shed. Just waiting to download it, the site put me on a 1 hour "time-out". If interested I will post the site.

Im using the barn in the farm yard (the one that backs on the the chickens ) as long as i use a stack of 14 at the edge im not having a problem though once im three or four rows in I think getting the auto stacker in out out might be a problem!

I think I'll switch to round bales, when my square ones are gone.

I'm still going to use both, round for the shredder and square for the feed, but I just want somewhere to put them all together neatly.
