Graphicz Cardz Question

Post by JohnDeere318 »

Hello,

What do you guys think of this GTX 980? Is it worth the $450? I am thinking "what a hella deal!" Would it bottleneck a Phenom II X4 955 BE? Or would make any performance issues? What about with the AMD Eight Core? I need you thoughts, still deciding on the card. Any help is appreciated, just asking if this is a deal or not.

Thanks!

I have the 980Ti which is the 6GB model. I upgraded from the 780Ti (3gb model) and absolutely love it. I never really had an issue with low FPS in FS15 on the older card, but struggled with keeping the FPS up in ATS and ETS2 in cities. Now it holds a solid 60FPS anywhere and max graphic settings. But again that is the 6GB version.

As for this being a good deal, I compared prices to 980's on Amazon and yea..it appears to be a little cheaper. I'm not sure about your AMD setup. I'm an Intel guy.

Do you suggest any motherboards and CPU's for Intel? If they are on the cheaper side I will take it. Has to be quad core or higher, no duals.

I don't remember what I paid for them, but look them up. The internet is at your fingertips.

K k, will do :)

Just looked them up, the Intel CPU is way to out of my price range, but looks nice!

The motherboard is a deal, now I just need to find an cheaper Intel CPU, doubt I will find one, but you never know what you'll come across. :smileynew:

Some if the i5's are pretty good value for money, and more than enough for farm sim 17. The quad core 4590 is pretty decent. The higher the ghz you can get the better.

Meow, what motherboard do you currently have?

If you are not worried about playing AAA titled games, like Battlefield 4, COD, etc etc, then a medium to high end AMD rig will run most games fine at settings you will be pleased with. There is no need to have an intel CPU for gaming becoz dey run gamez da best, most newer AMD chips will run games fine, just not at 4K and with all the usual bells and whistles.

I have had AMD and Intel rigs in the past, I had an AMD rig not dissimilar from yours, an early Asus M4 board with a X4 Athlon stuck to it. Later I went to an Asus M5 Evo board and had a Phenom X6 1100T on it. Then I went into overclocking and bought an Asus Sabertooth 990FX and eventually had a 8350 stuck to it along with a Radeon 6990 (don't ask).

I would say that if you are only looking for the ability to play farm sim and the like, then get yourself a later motherboard, preferrably with the 990 chipset, and at least an FX4300 or something. In terms of graphics cards, an R380/390 or GTX 780 or 970 would be a reasonable match. They can cope with a lot of games near max settings in 1080P, and there is no way the next farming sim game is going to be as heavy on hardware as those titles are today.

If you have a reasonable mobo then you know you can at least upgrade CPUs in time and GPUs can be changed when it suits you. All you need are modern SATA and USB ports and a decent chipset that can keep up.

Ah thanks for the advice! :)

My motherboard is the ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard that support AM3 and not AM3+.

That's kind of what I thought about the Intel, I don't think I'm ready to go to Intel quite yet. I have always been an AMD fan myself.

Do you know of any good priced 780's? 970's are a little too pricey. I have a $200 budget for a card.

I would trawl the usual online retailers and see what you can find for $200. Older cards devalue a lot, you might be able to pick up a slightly older card which is still very powerful but it will be fine for games like farm sim.
