Well behaved logs ...

Post by W1der »

Hey ...
The logs IRL are much more well behaved than the the ones provided to us from Giants.

I want to see them act like this in FS17! ... *thumbsup*

Yes that's how it should be unfortunately it's the way the game is made, it glitches when you have branches picked up, it is very annoying. I didn't really get into the forestry part until a few days ago when I needed to chop trees and whilst the big pieces are easy to pick up like the video the smaller they get the worse it gets, usually the top part of the trees. In the end I just used the woodchipper mod to get rid of them, I don't like cheating but I needed them trees gone lol.

I bet he'd fumble just as bad as the rest of us if only armed with a mouse and keyboard., the logs in FS15 don't act like a deadweight, which doesn't help in the slightest. But I don't touch logs at all, not worth the hassle.... everything goes in the wood chipper on my farms.

I love logging ... using the Joystick on the side panel together with the left stick on the wheel and the left and right button on the left numpad on the wheel (to open and close the tool) makes it so much easier and fun!

After quite many hours using the stock equipment I started looking for mods ...
I found a couple mods and scripts that makes big scale logging both efficient and easy.
At the beginning I was against using mods that feels like "cheating" .... but when I realized that logging IRL actually IS easier than logging in farmsim I changed my mind.
Also ... I was quite surprised that a lot of the mods that felt like cheating ... actually is based on real equipment.
It´s a matter of choice (how you want to play the game) really ... when I use the Bruks Un wood chipper to clear out trees ... I do not collect the wood chips from it ... (that would feel like cheating for me).
I actually found videos on youtube of equipment that works like that ... they just drive over fallen down trees and makes chips of them ... but they leave the chips on the ground.

Am planning to do a video on what I use to help others ... cause I am getting tired of hearing that forestry is to hard.
I can get that if you only play with the keyboard and the mouse it can be a bit tricky ... but with the mods I use and a bit of imagination you can get a quite realistic large scale operation running!

I will make a list of what equipments and scripts I use for you ...

This is a list of mods and scripts I use, that makes forestry a lot easier/effective and more fun.

Manual cutting for wood harvester.
This one makes "stacking" with the Scorpion King a lot easier and more realistic as it disables the auto cut sequence after feeding the length of the log witch lets you align it to the previously cut logs before doing the cut. The script adds the function to the stock Scorpion King.

Scania R730 forest and trailer.
The trailer can lift the body to tip the logs out sideways - Unloading with the push of a button!
I am not sure of the link below as I did forget to bookmark this one.
The mod I got installed came with a bunch of different trucks and trailers and the description dos not match my zip file but it looks to be the same features.
Edit: Found the correct link to the "megapack" I have installed!

Depository for wood (placeable).
I use 2 of the small ones next to each other with a gap that just barely fits the width of my front loader - loading logs has never been easier!
It´s actually almost to easy, so at times I tend to over load the front loader tool so it gets to heavy ... :)
Place these on a flat section of the map or the logs will start to slide if you are using the log trailer below with repeated loading runs.
Together with this mod I use the Log trailer below. If you pull up just next to it it will unload straight into the depository.

Log Trailer with autoload.
This replaces the need of a "Buffalo". If any one knows about a "truck trailer" wit this feature please let me know ... ;)
Lets you pick up around 10 pcs of 8 meter long logs (or any length) and unloads them on either the left or the right side creating a neatly aligned stack ready to be picked up or just unload them straight into the above depository.
If you are going to handle the logs with a front loader I suggest sticking with 8 meter for easy handling. If you are using cranes do not go over 6 meters (I usually go with 5 meter for cranes.)
You can actually just drive it around at it will collect the logs from the ground as you pass them. However, I find it better to load them as the trailer is standing still to get the logs aligned better.

Lumber mill (placeable).
Adds something to do with your logs. Creating pallets of boards to sell at the wool sell point.
(It can be a bit tricky to find a flat area to place this one on some maps.)

Fliegl multi purpose semi trailer.
Trailer to use with the pallets from the above sawmill.
It has foldable sides and it also extends in length if you want extra loading space.
I noted that the sides raises if you restart your game and causes the pallets to move, so it´s better to load it all at ones.

Front loader tools with auto load.
Tools with auto load and an extra camera angle with focus on the tool. Works with pallets, bales and "others".
This is one of my favorite multipurpose mods!
Edit: I have noticed that if you use the auto loader feature on the fork lift tool together with the lumber mill ... the mill stops making new pallets (it is not detecting that you removed the pallet and you need to put down a pallet on the "plate" and remove it to make the mill start working again.) How ever ... still a great mod cause of the third camera angle!

Bruks un wood chipper
No link for this one as there is multiple versions (some attaches to a front loader).
I use one that also acts as a stump grinder.
(Use google to find the one you like the best.)
