I hope all you real farmers are claiming every nickel of the farm subsidy for which you are richly entitled.
However the Twit in Washington or mostly Mar Lago wants the defund the farm subsidies as too expensive
all this with his finger hovering over the Nuke war button.

Ehh, while they are intended for smaller farms(like ours), they really seem to only favor the bigger guys anymore. If the business tax rate does indeed drop like proposed, it would probably make up that difference and then some(at least for us)

there was some abuse of it too rich dr's would buy small farms and claim the subsidy on their taxes.
Now you have to have 40 or more acres under cultivation to get the subsidy or take the deal where you dont' grow anything but get money for not growing wheat or corn for 2 years. Called the Fallow bill, my husband just said. And we fallow 40 acres on rotation anyway so we make out on that.

Hmm, sounds similar to how our 30ft easement along a creek worked(except that was always grass)

The other positive proposal(that I'll be surprised if it makes it) would be the long overdue death of the estate tax.

Now that the republicans are in power, they will hang on to that to the last.
It was suppose to be phased out over 10 years. but 10 years came and went and we still have it.

Neither side really wants to get rid of it, because it is a tool used by urbanites(of all sides) to keep rural America from being prosperous.

I don't know if you grow corn or not we have been experimenting with a emerging technology growing corn with 2 to 3 inches of water per acre and getting a 200 bushel per acre Yield. normally high Yield corn takes 20 to 25 inches of water per acre 1 inch of water per acre is 27,000 gallons of water.

We average around 185-205bu per acre on non-catastrophic years here....lol. Depends on the field, variety, & season. And yes, corn pulls water from the ground like a straw.

I helped develop a kind of drip irrigation that is now patent pending ph, nutrients and water are all metered so there is no run off into streams or rivers we use dramatically less water than normal irrigation methods helps keep costs down to a manageable level so we are also keeping our organic cert as well.

Yea, we don't irrigate......at all.

Irrigation systems in my area are extremely rare, just normally don't need them

We had 3 wells all of them dried up then we built a 600 acre capacity cistern. after it was built and thee pumps installed the heavens opened up and it rained for 9 straight days.
Then we had 10 big storms after and all said and done our cistern is nearly full. For a while we was the laughing stock of the town most said it would take years to fill it. Now everyone is amazed.

We could have filled something like that with the rains we got right after planting corn......those were heavy enough they pounded the soil down and made the corn come up spotty. Yay replanting.
