Morning All

Thought I would just go and check on my first bales, was shocked at what I saw

Where had they gone?

Are these used by the game for anything, or should I up farm security :wink3:

You're using the seasons mod and if those are grass bales they will for away after 2 days I think.

It's part of the design of the mod. It's easy to tell you are using it from your screenshot. The base game doesn't include any seasonal information.

Case closed.

Just going to check on my bales(hay), that I left in the field overnight. Should have counted them before leaving :biggrin2:

From the seasons manual:

Grass bales and Silage
To create hay the grass must be dry enough to be able to use a tedder. If you see the “Wet Crops” icon in the top right corner, then you will not be able to create hay. Using a tedder when crops are wet or when it is raining, leaves wet grass, not dry grass. You will need to wait until the “Wet Crops” icon disappears and then use the tedder.

Swaths of straw and grass will start to rot and disappear if not baled in time and left on the ground. Currently they do not turn to manure, but simply reduce in size to simulate rotting.

Grass bales will rot and disappear after two days, unless they are wrapped so that they become silage bales. Wrapped bales do not turn into silage immediately, but instead need some time to ferment....How do you know when this has happened?

Hay and straw bales exposed to rain will start to rot so keep them inside sheds....will they disappear also to show this happening?

Chaff in bunkers will take one third of a season to ferment.

Very good. There is a lot more to this MOD than you first think.

Perhaps reading the manual would be good :smileynew:

So this begs another newbie farming question:

Why would you want to 'bale' grass ad NOT wrap it?

I'm not sure with wrapped bales but I presume it tells you what percemt fermented they are in the help menu just like the silage bunkers.

Grass and hay bales will stay the same physical size but if you try lift them with a bale spike it will show reduced capacity or you could use a mod that will show the same when you get close to the bales.

Sheep only eat grass or hay so if you wrap grass it's useless for sheep.

You would not. fs allows this. Seasons does not. Keeping grass baled and not wrapping it is not realistic. No farmer in their right mind would do this. There are several simplifications that we had to do, but in general grass bales cannot be used in seasons. You should make hay (dry grass bales) or silage bales (wrapped grass)

The mod game extension has a farmers hand feature which will show you what the fill type of the bale is.

In the future we are planning on also the fermentation within seasons or by extending xentro's game extension.
