So did the computer dynamite the brakes, or did the operator have a sudden realization that caused the rear end to come off the ground like that?

Distracted operator.
And guessing he hit the brakes to stop with a full tank (just like a FS worker other than they have the courtesy of slowing down some) surprised/lucky that didn’t break anything though.

Thanks. I was just curious if the computer had a function where it would stop the machine in an overloaded condition, but it sounds like the operator just looked out the mirror and got surprised.

I doubt he used the brakes, that is what happens when you stop the hydro too fast. I almost never use the brakes in our combine

That’s one awesome thing about hydrostats. Brakes on our tractor only get used for turning, parking, and occasionally stopping.

The only thing better than a hydro is a CVT (specifically a Vario, not the clutched whatever Deere and CNH call a CVT/IVT)

CVT on most tractors, JD calls it IVT

And yes, that's just the hydro lol

I think a powershift is the best transmission in a tractor, at least the one Case IH uses is responsive and easy to use

Vario is IMO (armchair operator here) the best tranny on tractors. Not sure what CNH and Deere is trying to do with clutch packs in a “Infinite” or “Continuous” transmission... (not like clutches require (computer/mechanical shifting of some sort and wear out... (sarcasm))
Vario on The other hand is essentially just a hydrostat (pretty dang simple) with a few gears to help increase performance.
I do find the guys who say “gears simpler” than a Hydro or CVT when referring to shuttle shifts and powershifts kind of funny. (4 speed in the 8N or my 110 is simple, not a PS or SOS though)

Does the vario work with magic then? Because last I checked it needs to be controlled by a computer and still has wear parts.

Has manual override and no clutches, and the computer feeds input control, rather than actual transmission operation (computer makes it move faster/slower/change direction (without clutch) rather than making it function (controlling clutch packs)
Wearparts is essentially the seals wearing out in the 7-15k (just went and looked it up, seems 8-10k is what they usually handle) range rather than clutch(es) wearing out. And the trannies are full components meaning when it does finally kick the can it is removed fully and a new Vario dropped in.
I’ve yet to read much of any Vario durability or operation bashing, while red/blue guys bash green and vice versa.

We demoed a Challenger 1042 with the variable transmission, and the guy who runs our liquid manure tank ran it for a day, and he told my dad the Challenger was a superior tractor to the Deere 8295R we had recently gotten for it. Not sure how much life you get out of that type of transmission on a manure tank, but our 8R on the manure tank only runs it if it's under warranty since you can tear an IVT apart running it hard on a 9500gal tank
