New Holland Robot Tractor?!

Post by mdoss »

So, I'm new to the farming/farm sim community, so forgive me if this is not something new...

But New Holland just released a video about an Automated tractor that can operate WITHOUT A DRIVER, and can be remote controlled by a computer or tablet?!!

That looks freakin awesome!!
(And I'm sure super expensive!!)

Ah, no worries! We're always looking for interesting videos *thumbsup*

Eventually for the huge farms specialisation will occur and electrical fully selfdriven seeders will appear. Same for auger wagons, cultivators etc. Some based on a frame with parts that can be interchanged for the specific job. However technology is not yet that far. And the farming community is sceptical, saying it takes away jobs from the farmhands etc. :hi:

Yeah, I'm an air traffic controller, and we are always concerned with all the automation, that they will eventually try to do away with our jobs as well!
Pilots, too.!

Scary thought! :sadnew: :o: :surprised2:

Yeah I would be very sad to loose a job and to loose a job you love because of something a robot took over. Which would be devastating for farmers who like to that, but the hired hand gets shoved out of the picture by some automated robot.

It is part of CNH Industrials push of autonomous tractors. They have versions with and without cabs. Here is a picture of the Case IH autonomous they showed off a while ago. As you can see it doesn't have a cab.

Well with a cab you retain the ability to use the tractor for other aspects that the computers can't . With tractors without a cab they are limited to do only field work.

True, but I was assuming a farmer would have at least 1 conventional tractor around still. And these should have a remote controler with some type of manual controls.

None of us is going to be able to prevent that anyway, being replaced by machines. Now it seem to be mostly bank employees, but autonomous vehicles are only a few years out, and with them the end of drivers, operators or pilots.

But it doesn't have to be bad. Depends on what governments are going to do. Do they force wealth to be distributed evenly or do they allow only a few people who own the machines be wealthy and the rest poor and without a job.

The latter case seems to be the human way history wise, but one could imagine if everyone in the world has become poor and replaced by machines, who you going to sell your produced goods to ? Without an economy you can't make profits.

It is not the governments nor other peoples responsibility to take care of those who do not work.

Jobs that are replaced by machines create new jobs in factories that make the machines, in vendors who sell them, in contractors that install them, and in mechanics who repair them.

Welfare creates dependency and leads to more welfare. Why bother getting a job for x amount of dollars an hour when you get other peoples money for doing nothing.

Exactly! Just like the town I go to school in. But as always, why not get fat, have health issues, have to use a motorized wheelchair, when you can get money for free!! From hard working people that deserve the money they worked hard for, but nope, we have to give it to the people who don't want to get job, but can afford smartphones. *thumbsdown*

Something that is around the corner is machines designing machines too. No more human programming needed. Machines making machines does not create jobs.

In fact if this goes on as it does, everyone is out of a job except for owners of very large companies that can afford such machines. Governments must protect the people from disasters, and everyone without a job and poor is a disaster. You can imagine living in misery with no future you will want to rise against those few rich that did this to all of us. There will be (civil) war. If you are too late they will even turn machines against you, like in the Science Fiction movies. But then for real.

In my country politicians are already mentioning the problem as many people already are losing their jobs to machines now. But automation was started decades ago. As i said those are mainly office and store workers being automated. Large distribution centers are also largely robotized. Even parcel services want accelerate drone delivery systems, and they are close getting permits for that.
