Re: Bales
There are several sizes but most all big bales are 8 feet long... Some are 4 feet wide by 4 feet tall and weight about 1800 US pounds (that's hay, straw is about 1000), others are 3 by 4, and others still are 3 by 3.

Unless we're talking uk, farmers over here must be lazy
never seen a 8ft bale here in the U.K. Most bales over here can be picked up by hand... excluding the round bales obviously haha

Re: Bales
In my area all the farmers that do big bales sell them for export overseas and use the smaller bales for their personal use and for local sales.

Re: Bales
What type of hesston is that and the hay is pretty packed in as well lol?
where i live in Ireland, round bales are mainly used for straw, silage and hay. small square bales for straw and big square bales for straw. what we use is a new holland 648 round baler. the best baler in our area. the other balers in our area for some reason have loose bales. to me that makes or breaks the bale especially for silage. what we dont have is the chopper. i have a mixed opinion on that. perfect for feeding cattle but as soon as you open up the plastic falls apart as soon as you pick it up. again down to the packing of the bale from the baler
