That's the gamble. If every guy but one asked the same question and planted beans instead, next year corn would suddenly go up in price. Futures brokers would go crazy. Then you have guys like Fordfarmer, who are smart enough to realize the market fluctuates at such a high rate, your feed costs would cause you indigestion should you not have a safety net.

We often can't plant till mid/late may. 120 day corn is mature late September. Then it dries in the field till the moisture content gets to where we want it.

Farmers over here plant the majority of their corn the first week of march.

First week not March Minnesota typically has high temps around 35 and lows of 20. Usual plenty of snow on the ground.
