Drive Ctrl "variGear"

Does anyone know how to use this parameter?
I cant really tell any difference between the values I have tried.
Without this module enabled I get the "rocket launch" on some vehicles ... and when I enable it the acceleration is a bit to weak.
I figured changing this value should do something about it ... but I might be "off" on this?
