There is a "youtube" button on the Post a reply page, but I can't get it to work. Is it broken or am I doing something wrong?

It works fine but you only put in the string of letters and numbers after the ''/''.

...and it has to be a link created on the YT page by clicking "Share". Not copied from the address bar.

No you just copy the text after the ''=''

I think it is better to show the actual code on how the youtube tags work in the forum instead of posting links to videos

This is how it's supposed to look if you want to embed a youtube video in a post using the youtube button with the original video as an example:
