[SOLVED] Almost 2 minutes to load a game

Post by rogeriodec »

Is it normal FS19 takes almost 2 minutes to load a single game slot, even it's stored in a dual SSD Raid0?
During the load, I noticed some behaviors:
  • Up to 20 seconds, the spin spins frantically, so it stops
  • Then it stays still for almost 1 minute
  • Finally, it will spin for another 20 seconds until the option to start the game appears.
Is there any way to monitor what is causing this slow loading of the game?

If you really want to know, then try this ....

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint ... ds/procmon

In particular, look for FAIL results because those can slow things down.

Try removing the key bindings input xml as I had this issue and it was down to clashes in the key bindings. If you remove it it will reassign them back to standard. When it happened for me it was also slow when switching between the 2 ingame option screens.

Reset you key bindings, my game took up to 5 mins to load and also shut down. Reset the keys and now it’s back to normal.

There are a bunch of things that affect load time.

What size map are you running?
How many mods are your running?
How fast is your CPU and GPU?
Do you have any log errors?
Are you running Seasons?
Are you running CoursePlay and have a bunch of saved tracks?
Does this happen on one specific map, or on all of them?
Does the load time differ if you are starting a fresh save with no mods on that same map?

Those are just a few possible causes.

First, how many mods are in your mod folder?

Second, how many of them are activated on that save?

Third, how fast does the same map load up with a new save with NO mods activated?

Four, have you enabled the developer console and if so hit the ~ key when the save is loading to see exactly what the game is loading and when it is loading it as well as to see if there are errors, warnings or other messages going through the log.

As a general rule of thumb. Only have mods in your mod folder your actually using. EVERY mod in the mod folder is read upon game start up. This occurs before the game even gets to the main menu. The more mods you have the more has to be scanned before the main menu even shows up. After a save game is picked all of the mods activated for that save game are scanned once again, some aspects of them is likely stored into system memory. The more mods you have activated the more time this is going to take and more resources this is going to take. The more things you have purchased on the map, the more placeable things a map might have the longer it will take to read these things from the map or mods and to 'spawn' them as the save loads up.

So having a mod folder with say 500 mods in it is going to have an impact on general load up no mater how fast your drive is. A good practice is to have only the mods you need for any given save or multiplayer in your mod folder at any one time. I maintain different mod folders for every save game and multiplayer server I use. Sure this means that I have multiple copies of the same mod often times but it also allows me to have multiple versions of the same mod for different situations where maybe one version works best for a given save or mutliplayer server. I then swap them out as I swap saves by renaming the mod folder to something like mapname_mods and then rename the next mod folder I need to use to mods and then launch the game.

I don't want to take away from the original post, but since aklein mentioned the number of mods in use, I'd like to ask a console question. Would the number of mods in use also effect the load of a game save on console as well. It takes me every bit of two minutes if not more on Console to load Marwell. I have way more than 50 loaded.

Yeah I would have thought it would have the same affect on console as well bud.

CoursePlay mod is the culprit.
Without CoursePlay, it takes only 19 secs to load.
With CoursePlay, it takes 85 seconds, ie, 66 seconds just for CoursePlay...
The strange thing is I have also AutoDrive mod enabled, which has a LOT of more routes than CoursePlay, however, AD loads faster...

I removed almost all of my mods for my lone oak save except for the ones I use and the dlcs and it didn't seem like it changed much, but i only have about 50 percent used of my modhub space.

I created an issue on CP's GitHub (https://github.com/Courseplay/courseplay/issues/4597) and the solution:
Deactivate "Load Coursed at Startup".

If I recall correctly saved courses are an XML entry for each point. Parsing XML with an off the shelf parser is ridiculously expensive just to extract a single coordinate. Probably even more expensive if they're doing it through an API.
