Starting a new farm, looking for advice

Post by Bryan83 »

So I got a map set up on Big Fields farm, but if you follow me in other parts of this forum, you know that I've been plagued with problems. The other issue I face is that there's a nice, new map available and recently I came back across Dahl whilst looking for some other mods.

Here's the thoughts thus far;

Big Fields Pros-
•Set up the map from scratch
•Large, American style fields
•24 hours into this building this
•Small download size

Big Fields Cons-
•Roads and town have a very Euro feel
•Sell points are mostly bunched in the middle
•Train is only on the outside perimeter

Dahl Ranch Pros-
•Based in Montana, convenient to my other blog
•Again, relatively small download size
•Large Fields

Dahl Ranch Cons-
•Limited number of fields
•Unknown base slot count

Dahl Ranch Neutral-
•Map is heavily geared toward animal husbandry (Specifically cow and sheep) which could work for or against a new story line

Lazy Acres Pros-
•New map
•Additional crops
•American feel
•Large fields

Lazy Acres Cons-
•Larger download size
•Unknown base slot count
•More crops means more machines, more slots used.

So there you all have it. If you have more pros or cons, personal opinions or other observations, please share. And don't forget to vote as I will be watching that closely. If you reccomend or advise against a certain map, please also tell me a little about why. Thanks.

Well, i hope i'm not speaking out of turn on your thread, but one thing i could never figure out on FS, particularly on the console (being there isn't much of an issue on the pc mods), is why all the American maps, maybe with the exception of Welker, seem to be located in the mountains somewhere, and the European Maps seem to be located in flat plain areas.

I would think the American backdrops should look like the Europeans, and the European backdrops the Americans. I mean farm country in the states in not really located as much in the mountains (likely due to drainage issues) as it is in the Great Plains in the farm belt area of the country. Even this new map in Indiana looks more in the mountains, than in what most of Indiana looks like.

Idk, weird. I would love an Iowa map or somewhere in Kansas lol. Big and small fileds, but flat as a board terrain with nothing as far as the eye could see lol. It just never happens on this game, as far the American maps. As i said, the Europeans it does, but i can't play on those maps given the narrow roads, weird signs and the like.

If I'm thinking the correct map MrSealy stated lazy acres started at 1079 slots, however (PLEASE KEEP READING) unless you want a different piece of equipment and basically swap piece for piece, you never had to buy anything. You even start with a telehandler and a skid steer. I think the only thing to buy was one of the modified tater harvester/headers for the new onion and carrot crops.

No worries. I was asking for thoughts and opinions, and you delivered. I also happen to agree a bit with you.

So that 1079 slot count is basically a "turn key" farm with everything set out for you? Like an instant farm, just add farmer? Because I figured I could sell a lot of things and change them out for what I wanted.

Dahl is actually based on South Dakota. I started in New farmer and sold stuff and the starting slot count is really low. I'm not sure if there is a seasons mask though. I also placed my own hog, sheep, and chicken pens. Along with like 3 sheds and got any equipment I wanted. This was before seasons dropped though.
1300 acre farm, finish out just about 10,000 hogs a year, 200 cattle, and xbox one and pc user.

Oh, let me throw a wrench in the works. If it makes a difference in your opinion, I'm planning on making this my Deere farm.

Stone Valley? Even though it’s not listed it has plenty of Case IH’s which are in disabled condition to complement the Deere’s.

On Dahl, you should have plenty of slots.

Now im a little weary of Dahl. No seasons may be an issue for me. I'll give the poll a couple more days and if Dahl finishes first, then I'll at least check it out.

I don't know what happened there, but that was supposed to be seasons. I want to be able to use seasons, but I'm not sure what would happen if I tried to use it on a map without the proper mask.

Right on mah dude, only thing missing is the modded carrot/onion harvesters. And you get everything, I have to try it but I bet if you sold everything (from the menu) it would be a few million. I'm also in love with map because TNT gives you all Case.
I can't remember it all as I've been bouncing around all the new maps figuring out which to play. But yea basically unless there are mod equipment or mod placeables (like not the Lone Oak placeables) you could start farming and just go with what you got. There should even be room to add a combine unit when you get big.
