Game Keys

A friend offered me a CD copy of 22, but what keys do these come with? If I remember/understand they come with both a CD and website key. Pleased correct me if wrong.
Then, how do website downloaded (or CD) games interact with Steam? I generally use Steam for its auto updating and cloud saves (and DLC’s) so what functionality will or will not work with Steam/what needs to be set up (if I understand right, Steam can launch it but won’t be on my account, update, or maybe save save games.

Thanks, Deere.

Copies are illegal. when you buy it you have one use. Dont take my word for it, but every cd ive ever seen said its illegal, especially a game. I would ask giants themselves to be positive.

I believe that the keys on a CD follow the disc/ownership. Otherwise I have no clue how used games wouldn’t be piracy.

"a single specimen of a particular book, record, or other publication or issue."

That’s one of the definitions given by the Google dictionary for “copy” it means an example of something. ie a copy of a book, a copy of a game, a copy of the movie, etc.

Oh gotcha. So did you see any thing about copying a game being illegal?

And that’s related to anything how…?

I believe 22 has a CD and PC key with the disc version, but not sure how either of them would interact with Steam.

Im totally off the lines. Im thinking you ment your buddy burnt a copy of fs22 onto another cd. So, on the box it came in, it doesn't have a code to type into the wizard? It should.

I believe so as it was brought up multiple times on the FS22 announcement threads multiple times. My question is just how Steam will interact with either type of key/install.

For FS22 the key that is included in the retail version (the box with the DVD you can buy in a store) can be used to both activate the game after it has been installed from the DVD and also to download a copy of the game directly from GIANTS (for example if you want to get an installer that includes a later version of the game than the one that is on the DVD).

There is no "interaction" of the DVD/digital download-versions of the game with Steam. As far as I know you can add the installed game in the Steam client to launch it from there, but that's it. You still need to update the game using the launcher provided by GIANTS. If you want to use all the features of Steam, like automatic updates, you will have to buy the game via Steam.

Also the DVD/direct-download versions of the game can't use the DLCs bought via Steam, you have to buy them directly from GIANTS. But if you get the Steam version you can buy the DLCs either via Steam or from GIANTS as far as I know.

Thank you, that’s what I was looking for. I’ll probably wait for a Steam sale to pick up FS22 and some DLC then.
