Cultivator and Stones

Apologies for the beginner type question but I have stone picked a number of my fields, grown a crop and cultivated the foeld. As I cultivated it brought back the stones, well probably different stones, to the fields.
I thought it was ploughing not cultivating that brought up stones... have I missed something?

Deep cultivators will bring up stones.
Disc cultivators don't I think
Or just use direct drills
No till all the way
