Is it possible to allow snow layers to accumlate beyond what appears to be 0.5m maximum?

Maybe. What have you tried so far?

If you're on PC, I'm thinking maybe if you edit the basegame files (which is not advised, but I do it anyway). Just make sure you keep a copy of original files. And be careful. I'm thinking maybe something in data/maps/maps_densityMapHeightTypes.xml
