Adding ability to hire ai worker to puckup truck mod

I have found a pickup mod that I like but it doesn't have a way to hire ai worker for auto drive or courseplay. The modder has stated they are fine with some one adding this ability. I would like to try but so not know where to start is it simply Ingersoll adding script to xml file or would I have go into i3d file.
