Farming Simulator 25
Re: Farming Simulator 25
It's for both! But from what I have understood from what whats shown and said, they seem to work pretty similar. The tracks for the gps are created on the go by ai, and it dosent care if you plow together fields, it just calculates the field when you turn into it. I think it was a bit misleading, showing recordings of the ai worker in GE, so that the lines, we never see are shown, because there is no stuff to be done by map makers afaik, its all there automatically by the ai, again that's what I understood from the intervjues. I'm curious on what happens with the GPS if you do two rounds around a field with the gps off, if it then calculates the remaining parts of the fields, and chooses the longest straight line/edge with unworked field as the starting point, or if it just uses the outside field edge. Same with cultivation on an angle on the seeder/harvester lines. Does it do this? That's why I prefer the A+B point line, then it's completely up to the player to choose the course.

Yes, no 4x maps from GIANTS. Cause of said above reasons.JSK wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 1:40 pm
This was already asked at FarmCon Q&A: No 4x maps on console in FS25!
They didn't say modders couldn't make them
When in doubt, look intelligent.

Giants have realesed the presentations from farmcon with subtitles. Learned a couple of things that has been lost in translation

Re: Farming Simulator 25
Have they said anything about the map size? I'm just curious because there was a picture of the Curved Creek map, and that looked bigger, because the field numbers was smaller - so I'm just thinking that maybe it has grown to 2,5x2,5 or maybe 3x3...? Just a thought

I’m pretty sure I have mentioned this before. Not sure why they can’t have a 2.5 or 3X map. That will work on console . If the 4X doesn’t work why not just have slightly less to operate?
You often see maps come out that are considerably less than 2×2

Someone said you't create a 3x size map in GIANTS Editor, as if I recall correctly you can pick a 2x, 4x, or even 16x or larger, but you can't pick a 3x size one.Beanbrother wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2024 10:51 pm I’m pretty sure I have mentioned this before. Too bad. Seems like that would be a way around it, but I know zero about Giants editor.
Re: Farming Simulator 25
For mathematical reasons maps have to be 2X, 4X, 8X, etc. Maps are far better optimised if they're designed to be the same even number along both sides, ie a square. Even the world map in something like GTA will start off as a square shape. Same goes for texture sizes. Its all just far easier to compute.

A standard size map is not 2x.....it's 2km x 2km....a 4x map has the same space as the equivalent of of 4 standard size maps, so 4km x 4km

You reference GTA, but that is taboo around here since Giants technology can't compete with Rockstar technology and fit a 75 square km map on console.Mobias wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2024 11:04 pm For mathematical reasons maps have to be 2X, 4X, 8X, etc. Maps are far better optimised if they're designed to be the same even number along both sides, ie a square. I believe the map size increments is a Giants limitation rather than a mathematical reason that the map would have to be square, and double in size.
My understanding is the map is a grid. In normal programming (most other games), a grid can be any size. For example, it can be 100x100, and you can easily make it 101x100 or 110x110 or 100x50 or whatever you want, without having to double the size or keep it square.
To prove my point, the game Transport Fever has maps that are rectangle as well as square, and they're using a home grown game engine.
The largest rectangle map in Transport Fever Console edition is 6 × 31.5 km.
The largest square map in Transport Fever Console edition is 14 × 14 km.

Re: Farming Simulator 25
So by increasing the map size you are decreasing the resolution for the info layers and such. This is especially visible with precision farming and cover maps on big pc maps...

Re: Farming Simulator 25
And if you have seen all the videos from farmcon, giants has reduced the texture size tiles from 2x2 to 1x1, so the resolution is better. If that applies to info layers is unknown. But there was also said that plant/foliage resolution was the same regarding tire tracks, foliage destruction will not fit with tire size sort of..
