Performance in Farming Simulator Signature Edition (Nintendo Switch 2)

Post by forgotaboutlaye »

I played a couple hours of Signature Edition this morning, coming in with relatively low expections, and am still somewhat let down by the performance.

I'm not sure what it is (struggling to keep 30FPS coupled with uneven frame pacing) but the game is a bit nauseating in motion, especially when you are spinning the camera and looking into the distance.

I do not have a problem with 30FPS, and am happy to play at 30FPS if the frame rate is mostly hitting that target, however that doesn't seem to be the case for me.

I checked a bit online, and it looks like Giants has a track record of patching/improving performance on console over time, so I'm really hoping they will do something about it here.

FS25 is one of my favourite games on PC, and I travel more often with my Switch than my Steam Deck these days, so I was really looking forward to this release.

However I bought the physical edition on purpose so that I could return it if needed. I'll give it another go and make a final decision there.

For others who have picked up the game -- how are you enjoying it?

I was genuinely excited for FS25 on the Switch 2, but in its current state it’s been a really disappointing experience. The game regularly drops far below 20 FPS — especially on the farm with equipment around. Saving takes unusually long, and the image quality is extremely blurry, almost like DLSS is being pushed way too hard and makes it look very ugly.

Because of the low frame rate and the heavy upscaling, the input lag becomes very noticeable, to the point where driving doesn’t feel responsive at all. The UI is also far too small for handheld play, which just adds to the frustration.

What strikes me most is that the console doesn’t seem to be working hard at all: the fan barely ramps up and the device doesn’t get too warm, which makes it seem like the game isn’t using the hardware properly. It’s especially confusing considering that much heavier titles like Cyberpunk 2077 run on the same system with better graphics and higher frame rates.

I really hope Giants is working on optimizations, because right now the game feels borderline unplayable. I don’t want to refund it — I was genuinely looking forward to this version — but unless major improvements are planned, I might have no choice.

It's been more than a week since the game has released, usually they release day 1 update, 1 week update or something like that, so far it does not seem to be the case for Signature Edition, I really hope that the update comes soon, in this state game is almost unplayable.

Some perspective from a PS5 console player:

FS25's performance is sub-par on PS5.
They did not even try to release it on PS4.
Switch 2's hardware specs are basically equivalent to a PS4/PS4 PRO, but with DLSS.

I'd assume they have to lean pretty hard on DLSS to perform at its current state.

The FS 25 SE cannot be directly compared to the normal FS 25. It is only about half the size, with almost the same scope. The textures were probably scaled down and the 3D models may have been slightly adjusted.

Although you are immediately contradicting your own statement by directly comparing the two releases, but yes, they very likely would have to make downscaling revisions based on the hardware specs.

If I had known it would run so badly, I would have preferred FS22 for Switch 2 instead. Better performance with pretty much the same gameplay. They could have included all the DLCs too.
They said the PS4 couldn’t run FS25, yet somehow it’s on Switch 2 lol (probably because they could take advantage of DLSS with Switch 2).

SwitchUp did a sponsored video on FS Signature Edition, and mentioned the devs have acknowledged the performance and are working on it.

I didn't find any further information on it, but I hope that is the case.

It's around the 2:15 mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeZ5UIkodX8

I do like the game but why put this out at 60.00 if it was not up to snuff? I would have rather waited for a complete game that ran smooth. However it looked enjoyable so jumped on the wagon!

So... are we ever getting an optimization patch? It's been almost a month and not a single word... A stable 30 FPS and a sharper image is all that is needed tbh. I noticed there's screen space reflections, which are totally unnecessary with how badly the game runs. The stickers on the vehicles look very low-res when in handheld mode and there is a bug where field textures take too long to update when working on the field.

We are most certainly getting the patch, I think that they are well aware of all these things. I would say the patch will be released in next two week.

I hope so -- The game releases in certain parts of APAC on the 22nd, so I hope they have a patch ready to go for the new users that will bring.

It's beyond disappointing to have no update, and no communication on the issues so far out from release.

Maybe in a few days? But I'm starting to lose all hope... Seriously what is Giants doing? They could at least say something...
