Round bales in mixer?

Post by HDtheEighth »

So everything krone is on sale on my farm and I was hoping to confirm that round bales also work when using the 3 in 1 mixer to get the mixed cow food.

So far every time I have seen someone use the mixer they have always used square bales but the round baler is cheaper so I was wondering if that would work as well. Can anyone confirm this?

Square bales is the best for using in the mixer due to their size.
Put in one hay and one straw bale and top up with silage to get the best mix.

Round bales is too big to get a good mix.

I tried round bales at first, but could not tell a hay bale apart from a straw bale. They looked the same to me.
So I used a baling machine (a mod) to wrap plastic around the hay bales so I could see wich was what. But that did not work well in the mixer. They just dissapeared.

I put one round straw bale in the mixer and then empty half into the barn for the cows straw and then put in a round hay bale and a scoop of silage to get a good mix. seems to work out, cows are using the straw as well as the mixed feed
